Sam Cece
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Sam Cece's executive management expertise is the result of over 25 years in enterprise software and systems sales, marketing and operations. As CEO of StrongMail, he has played a pivotal role in guiding the company's transformation from its genesis as an innovative email infrastructure company to a full-service, top-tier provider of email marketing and social media solutions for Fortune 2000 companies. Before StrongMail, Cece joined BEA Systems pre-IPO and held a number of key, world-wide, senior management positions during his tenure, including President of the Global Services Division; Vice President and General Manager of BEA's WebXpress Division; and Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. Prior to joining BEA, Cece held a number of marketing management positions in Silicon Valley. Cece holds a B.S. degree from Woodbury University.
Tim McQuillen
Founder and Chief Information Officer
A technology industry veteran, Tim McQuillen has been driving innovations in email for more than 15 years. From rebuilding a SaaS application from the ground up to helping reinvent the science of email delivery, McQuillen has a diverse background that has earned him a reputation for helping companies overcome technical challenges and simplify processes with cutting-edge solutions. McQuillen is currently applying his expertise as founder and Chief Information Officer at StrongMail, where he helped build the business into a market leader that powers email marketing campaigns for such global brands as Fox Sports, Macys and Travelocity.
In founding StrongMail in 2002 and building its technical operations, McQuillen helped solve an unmet need for an in-house, high-performance email marketing solution, which led to financial backing from Sequoia Capital and other top-tier venture capital firms. As the head of StrongMail's on-demand solutions, security, operations, IP, QA and technical services, McQuillen has played a key role in transforming the company from an email infrastructure company to a full-service provider of on-demand and on-premise solutions.
Previously, McQuillen managed all technical operations for L90, Inc., a publicly held Internet advertising company that was acquired by DoubleClick after a $112 million IPO. In that role, McQuillen successfully directed L90's technical operations and engineering teams for this top-tier advertising network with over $40 million in annual revenue. McQuillen lead the key design, architecture, implementation and maintenance for adMonitor, L90's high-scale, multi-tier SaaS advertising and email delivery platform. adMonitor grew to be one of the Internet's most successful online marketing applications, reaching reached over 65% of the worldwide Internet population and delivering over 8 billion ads per month for over 3,000 companies. In addition to all data center infrastructure operations, McQuillen built and maintained a 24x7 network operations center with .99999% availability.
Prior to L90, McQuillen was director of business development and marketing for TigerEye Consulting, LLC, an online-based executive technical recruiting firm, and associate partner of Quest Worldwide, an executive technology staffing company. McQuillen holds a B.A. in psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Bill Wagner
Chief of Staff & EVP of Operations
As Chief of Staff and Executive Vice President of Operations, Wagner has overarching responsibility for StrongMail's Sales, Marketing, Services, Strategy and Product functions. Wagner brings 20 years of management, marketing, product and operations experience with enterprise software companies to StrongMail. Prior to joining StrongMail, Wagner spent 10 years at BEA Systems in senior management positions where he helped take the company from startup to $1B in revenue. Most recently, Wagner was Vice President of Sales Operations at BEA with global responsibility for sales enablement and related projects. Prior to BEA Systems, Wagner held management positions with other companies in the technology and aerospace sectors, including Novell, Unix Systems Laboratories and Smiths Industries, where he had global product responsibility. Wagner earned a BS Degree in Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Bill Griffin
Chief Financial Officer
As chief financial officer, Bill Griffin manages all finance, administration and human resource activities for StrongMail. Griffin is a respected industry veteran with more than 20 years of senior management experience in public and private accounting. Most recently, Griffin served as CFO of InsWeb Corporation (Nasdaq:INSW), where he was responsible for the executive oversight of accounting, finance, investor relations and treasury. During his 6-year tenure with InsWeb, Griffin helped manage the restructuring of the company to become a profitable and successful online insurance marketplace. Prior to InsWeb, Griffin was executive vice president and co-founder of ZipSend, Inc., an Internet infrastructure company. Previously, as CFO of Inference Corporation (Nasdaq: INFR), Griffin orchestrated private placements and launched the company's initial public offering, which helped transform the small, privately held CRM software company into an international, publicly held organization.
Griffin began his career as a certified public accountant with Ernst & Young, where he developed the firm's Los Angeles-area software industry practice. Griffin holds a BA degree in business economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Mohan Sankaran
Executive Vice President of Engineering
As executive vice president of Engineering at StrongMail, Mohan Sankaran leads the development of StrongMail's multichannel, interactive marketing solutions. A Silicon Valley veteran specializing in data integration, analytics and SaaS software development, Sankaran has a 22-year successful track record of leading global engineering teams for pioneering technology companies. Most recently, Sankaran served as vice president of engineering analytics at SuccessFactors, which provides cloud-based business execution software to more than 3,500 customers around the globe. In that role, he launched three new products and released six major versions of existing solutions. Previously, during his ten years at Informatica, Sankaran built various global engineering groups and was instrumental in bringing many of the company's most successful products to market. Prior to Informatica, Sankaran played a key role in helping Sybase win multiple TPC (Technology Performance Processing Council) benchmarks for Sybase SQL Server. Sankaran holds a BS in computer science from the Indian Institute of Science (IISC) at Bangalore and a BS in Physics from Madras Christian College. Sankaran holds multiple patents in database method and architecture.
Jason Simon
Senior Vice President of Sales
As a seasoned sales executive and direct marketing veteran, Jason Simon has more than 20 years of experience helping leading marketing organizations expand their businesses and grow their bottom lines. In his role as senior vice president of sales, Simon is responsible for executing StrongMail's global sales strategy and managing the company's distributed sales force.
Simon's digital marketing expertise spans more than a decade, most recently as SVP of sales and sales business operations at ClickEquations. In that role, Simon revamped the company's sales and marketing operations, resulting in 50% annual growth and a successful acquisition by Channel Intelligence. Previously, as vice president of sales at Bigfoot Interactive, Simon helped lead the company to a $120 million acquisition by Epsilon, and subsequently transitioned into the role of vice president of sales and channel for the Epsilon Interactive Services Group. Simon's sales and management expertise also spans executive positions at Datran's Stormpost business unit, Zeta Interactive and DoubleClick. Simon holds a BA in political science from Syracuse University.
Chris Marriott
Vice President of Agency Services
A marketing and advertising veteran with 17 years of digital marketing experience, Christopher Marriott applies his expertise in managing StrongMail's New York-based agency services and its full suite of multi-channel strategic, creative and implementation services. A respected and active member of the digital marketing community, Marriott has had a formal role in providing training and advice to members of the Association of National Advertisers since 2001 and sits on the ad:tech Conference Advisory Board. Marriott is also a frequent speaker at digital marketing events and regularly contributes to industry publications.
Most recently, Marriott served as vice president of global agency services at Acxiom, where he helped expand the company's services to new international markets and bolstered their mobile and social media offerings. Previously, Marriott was managing director of the Wilton, Connecticut, office of Euro RSCG Circle, where he first began to successfully experiment with wrapping agency services around marketing technology. Marriott has also held marketing and advertising roles at such notable agencies as THINK New Ideas, Wells Rich Greene and Ogilvy & Mather, where he began his career and graduated from its Account Management Training Program. Marriott graduated Cum Laude from Dartmouth College with a BA degree in Music and History.
Tal Nathan
Vice President of Client Services
An industry veteran, Tal Nathan has been helping organizations deliver valued and effective email marketing services for more than 10 years. In his role of vice president of client services, Nathan manages all client services for StrongMail to ensure that their respective clients receive the highest level of professional service available in today’s competitive marketplace. Previously, Nathan served as vice president and general manager of client services for Epsilon, where he led online strategy for the company’s top-tier clients, with a focus on the retail, travel and financial verticals. Prior to Epsilon, he was the vice president of client engineering at infoGroup, where he led and managed integration services for its Yesmail division. No stranger to technology, Nathan began his career at BDO Seldman, where he provided a range of business management and technology services to Fortune 500 companies. Nathan holds a BS in mechanical engineering from UCLA.
Paul Conley
Vice President of Technical Services
Paul Conley is a 20-year veteran of the software industry, with extensive worldwide experience in customer support and software application development. Most recently, Paul served as Sr. Director of Worldwide Backline Operations at BEA Systems, where he ran an organization responsible for global backline support of BEA’s entire product portfolio – an organization consisting of more than 100 engineers in 14 support centers around the world. During his 7 year tenure with the company, Paul held a series of management positions, through which he transformed the company’s ability to proactively support over 15,000 customers worldwide including the majority of the Fortune Global 500. Prior to BEA, Paul held technical development and management roles at Bell-Northern Research and at TCSI, a consulting firm serving the global telecommunications industry. Paul holds an Honors degree in Computer Science from the University of Ottawa, Canada.
Scott Ollivier
Vice President of Products
As Vice President of Products, Scott Ollivier drives the strategy for all of StrongMail’s product management and product marketing. A veteran in the email and interactive marketing field, Ollivier has more than 15 years of experience translating market vision into successful software products.
Prior to StrongMail, Ollivier led key product management and marketing efforts at Responsys for more than nine years. In that role, Ollivier spearheaded key product innovations that helped drive significant revenue growth and analyst recognition. Previously, Ollivier held product development and project management roles at ARCADIS and Electronic Data Systems. Ollivier holds MS and BS degrees in chemical engineering from the University of California, San Diego.
